Supergirl season 5 premiere spoilers: Who is new villain Midnight?

Supergirl

The upcoming Supergirl season 5 premiere just decided upon its villain in Midnight — but who exactly is she? What is she going to bring to the table?

The first thing that we should note is that based on superficial description alone, she may not be someone who connects directly to a comic-book character of the same name. While there is a character nicknamed Midnight (real name Dave Clark) within the DC Comics universe, they are more of a vigilante than a full-fledged villain. Also, they don’t come from another planet in any shape or form. These are traits ascribed to the Supergirl version, per the character description released by Variety:

Midnight is a murderous villain released from an otherworldly prison to enact revenge against the person who put her there.

As for who is going to be playing the part, think along the lines of Jennifer Cheon Garcia, an actress who has appeared on Van Helsing, Lucifer and a number of other shows. This is a chance for her to have a little bit of a spotlight in a role that should prove to be fun — even if it’s short-lived.

There are a number of different things that we have noticed from studying Supergirl amidst these other CW superhero shows. One of the biggest ones is simply the fact that most premiere villains don’t stick around for a long span of time. They are there, you get to know them for a little while, and then they end up vanishing off into the ether somewhere. These shows often have to get the bigger and more dangerous things, but they need a solid jumping off point. The best thing that we can hope for when it comes to Midnight, with that in mind, is that she proves to be memorable. This could at least guarantee her some more appearances moving forward.

If you did not know already, Supergirl season 5 is going to be premiering on the CW in October. One of the main themes, based on the information that is out there, is that technology is going to have a huge role in driving the story forward. It’s about how much time we commit to our phones in our computers versus other human beings. It’s about those connections that really make us all the people who we are.
