Mayans MC season 2 trailer analysis: Is EZ Reyes flipping a switch?

Mayans MC

Today, FX released the first full Mayans MC season 2 trailer, and let’s just say that it sets the stage for conflicts like nobody’s business. It also shows that EZ Reyes is not going to be playing things safe when it comes to his life.

At the end of the first season, JD Pardo’s character made the decision that rather than flee the club and have a “better life” elsewhere, he wanted to stay. He wanted to feel like he was a part of something. In the new trailer (which you can watch over at the link here), he admits that he was afraid to leave. He didn’t know if he could stomach the idea of saying goodbye so he didn’t. He’s still there and ready to work towards getting more absolution from key events of his past.

If you think back to the end of season 1, you’ll remember that in the closing minutes, EZ learned that a familiar Sons of Anarchy character in Happy is responsible for the death of his mother. That may have happened at a different time in Happy’s life but it doesn’t change the fact that it still transpired. This is something that EZ and the Reyes family may contend with throughout the new season and the same goes with EZ and Angel’s relationship. They haven’t always been on the best of terms.

As for what else is coming up on Mayans MC season 2, Felipe is going to do his best to keep his dangerous past separate from everything that EZ and Angel are dealing with in the present. Meanwhile, Emily is going to do her best to caution Miguel over crossing any more lines given that they’ve both gone through so much already. Expect a more empowered Emily in season 2, but also people around her even more willing to take risks.

In the end, we’re not sure that season 1 resolved all that much of anything when it comes to the cartel, the rebels, the DEA, or the Mayans. All of these forces are going to come to a collision and judging from the trailer, the MC’s going to find itself in a position where everything is on the line.
