Blood & Treasure episode 9 review: A new mystery unfolds
After obtaining the Operation Paperclip file from the FBI, Danny and Lexi have a better idea of where Cleopatra went after Casablanca, however, they need Fabi’s help just before Gwen arrests him. This leads Danny to seek the help of a paranoid ex-Nazi hunter Moshe Cohen, who identifies the man who took Cleopatra as Col. Jurgen Steiner and helps them track him to a rural town in Quebec that was a secret haven for escaped Nazis. Not long into his imprisonment, Fabi escapes custody and follows them.
Danny persuades a local to reveal the location of an old weather station linked to the 1945 dam collapse that wiped out the town. The station caretaker, Georges Larose, turns out to be a descendant of the Nazis who triggered the accident and he tortures Danny while Fabi rescues Lexi. Unable to watch Danny be tortured, Lexi volunteers to be held hostage, but she stabs him while Fabi shoots him dead, though not before sustaining a fatal wound to the heart. With his dying breathe, Fabi reveals that it was her mother that was part of the Brotherhood, not her father, and George Larose was the man who killed her.
Up until this point we haven’t been certain of Fabi’s motives. We know he is a loyal member of the Brotherhood and has proven time and time again that he chooses the Brotherhood over the Carabinieri. However, this was the first episode in which we saw a more human side to him. He put his career in jeopardy in order to help Danny and Lexi, especially after finding out that Larose was involved. He didn’t stop at anything to save the pair and his final act was a heroic one and one that proves his intention were good.
In the end, Cohen burns the box of medals from every Nazi he hunted down, one of which has Steiner’s name on it, while Danny gives Lexi Fabi’s Brotherhood medallion to return so she can get answers about her mother’s death. The episode ends with Danny and Lexi sharing a kiss implying that they are back together.
CarterMatt Verdict
If they are in fact back together then going forward we look forward to watching how this will or won’t affect their partnership. We hope their playful banter will continue, and that it only intensifies. Either way, we are excited to see where this relationship is headed.
In addition, this episode also tells the audience that there’s more storytelling beyond the treasure of Antony and Cleopatra, which isn’t to say we didn’t think this was true before, but rather that there are very exciting stories still to be told.
