STAR season 4 will come in the form of ‘movie of the week,’ says creator
You are going to have a chance to see closure for STAR — it’s not clear what the network will be, but we’re at least getting the other side of that bloody, crazy wedding.
In a new post on Instagram, Lee Daniels first confirmed that he is planning a “movie of the week” to tie together the story of STAR — for those wondering, a “movie of the week” is a likely reference to a TV movie. There was an era of television where networks would air a 90-minute/two-hour special and they would call it a movie of the week.
For a little while now, it has been clear that Daniels was plotting something in this vein in order to ensure that there would be a way to satisfy longtime fans. STAR was one of the most surprising cancellations when the news was first announced a little bit earlier this spring, mostly because it hadn’t performed terribly in the ratings and it does have a fandom out there. Its cancellation came about mostly due to it being a byproduct of the Disney-Fox deal and it suddenly becoming very pricey for the network to keep around.
So while we understand that “movie of the week” may not be the equivalent of getting to see a full-fledged additional season, we absolutely consider this to be better than nothing. We’re just happy that there will be a chance to tie together some loose ends and get to see where some of these characters end up. STAR was a show about trying to make it for most of its run and it’s our hope that this ends up being the same for the movie. We also gotta give a lot of credit to Daniels, who remained a champion for this show even after its cancellation and wanted to do everything within his power to make sure that people out there who liked it got something in the way of an actual conclusion.
