One Day at a Time season 4: Justina Machado will direct
With One Day at a Time season 4 now officially happening, it looks like someone aboard the show will have a larger role behind the scenes.
Via a new report from Deadline, the exceptional Justina Machado is going to be adding to her resume for the upcoming batch of episodes — after all, she’ll be a director! This added responsibility is much deserved, and the same goes for her also netting a producer credit. This is a reward for all of her work making the series what it’s been — not just on it, but also off it over the past few months when much of the future was dependent on hopes and dreams. She can help to better influence story and where certain elements of it go; it’s basically another trusted voice to go along with the writers.
Machado’s extra responsibilities are a way to both make her more involved with the series moving to Pop, and also a way to try and lift the series overall to even further heights. Entering One Day at a Time season 4, it should already be crystal clear to everyone that we’re entering a new era. It’s going to be a weekly show now, meaning that episodes have to stand on their own more than ever before. It’s also going to be a chance to get more topical and play around with the concept of actually having commercial breaks. It’s a show that will feel different and yet the same, and hopefully, it’s going to have an even more supportive environment than ever. Pop fought for this show, and it’s even conjured up a special relationship with CBS in order to help keep it on the air. This is hopefully something that is going to last — we’re grateful that a season 4 is granted, but we also obviously don’t want this to be the end of the road. We’re hoping with every fabric of our being that there is some more juice within this world still.
One Day at a Time season 4 will not premiere until 2020, but you don’t have to wait to get some other updates!
