Ink Master season 12 episode 3: Sarah Miller, Bubba Irwin return
Following last week’s returns for Joey Hamilton and Ryan Ashley Malarkey, there is one other winner entering the folks this time around in Bubba Irwin — who alongside DJ Tambe in Ink Master: Shop Wars. He’s been on the show two different times already, so he should prove to be an asset to the women’s team in terms of understanding the highs and lows of the competition. He also knows what it’s like to deal with adversity, as he found himself repeatedly attacked during his second go-around on the show. He’s not the most intense guy we’ve seen on Ink Master, a show where super-intense guys tend to grow on trees every single season. He’s a little more low-key and a little more laid-back, so the hope here may be that he can use some of that energy to help the women feel more at ease. (This is provided that the returning men continue to coach the women and vice-versa.)
When it comes to Sarah, you have a woman who almost won the show in her first go-around, and we certainly know many people out there feel like she should have. She’s someone who can be extremely passionate and intense if need be, and that probably works well for these guys. They need a leader, someone who is going to challenge them and make them realize that sometimes, they’re a little bit better off actually listening for a change. Sarah knows what she’s doing, she’s been tattooing at a high level for many years, and she knows what the judges are looking for.
Entering episode 3, we feel like it is the women who are coming into the show with that added bit of fire. They just lost a team member in Elva, who left under her own accord. (If you missed it, Elva talks about that decision in our exclusive CarterMatt interview here.) The women don’t want to see another person gone from their team and they realized coming out of that the hardships that come from losing the Flash Challenge. We feel like they’re going to go hard entering this episode from the get-go to try and seize power and hit some of these guys — though the funny thing is that only rarely do the artists who are targeted via the skull pick end up going home. A good artist can know how to work with a canvas to ensure that they get the best overall tattoo, even if they’re entering the shop with some sort of outlandish/truly-insane idea that’s going to be almost impossible to get together.
This episode of Ink Master airs on the Paramount Network Tuesday night at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time.
