God Friended Me season 2 spoilers: Erica Gimpel promoted to regular
This news was first confirmed by Deadline, and it signals that Trish (who is now with a newly-retired Arthur Finer) is going to be around for most episodes. Not necessarily all of them, but most. The addition of Trish full-time does also signal that the show has big plans for the Arthur character and his storyline.
We’ll first admit that when Arthur left his position with the church in the finale, we were a little shocked — why do this? It really set his story in a direction where it was wide open for all kinds of new and exciting storylines. Without a clear sense of what’s coming, it’s hard to have confidence in knowing where they are going to pick up next season — but clearly, the writers have some plans. They’ve been in the process of thinking up new stories for a while. As reported recently, filming is starting soon on the second season and we imagine that will kick off later this summer, more tangible details will be unveiled. Think along the lines of filming locations, potential story teases, and a whole lot more!

Conceptually, season 2 will certainly have a different feel. With Cara Bloom now overseas working on a project with Simon Hayes, her relationship with Miles will be fundamentally different. Who the two were together in New York may not be present anymore with her in Paris. There’s a different dynamic, and new things that each person may be learning about themselves without the other around. Add to this the fact that the God Account isn’t just disappearing into a puff of smoke. There’s that new, mystery woman that surfaced at the end of season 1! She seems to have gotten a friend request of her own from God and is trying to act out and do his bidding … but we doubt that she’s got any more answers than Miles. She’s just another ingredient to the concoction to the show’s great question of identity.
Trish will likely be there on the series as a shoulder for Arthur, but also someone who Miles and the other characters can still get to know. Crazy conspiracy theory — what if she’s the one behind the God Account and she’s using Arthur as a means to get close to everyone without them knowing? This is obviously unlikely, mostly because this is such a happy show and we don’t know if they’d send it down this rabbit hole … but it’d be interesting, without a doubt.
Season 2 of God Friended Me will likely air in late September/early October over on CBS.
