Outlander notes: The latest on Caitriona Balfe, David Berry

Outlander season 4

We’re now right smack in the middle of the week and because of that, it does feel like a little bit of the hype surrounding the Outlander Emmy panel from the weekend is fading into the background. (A part of this is due to Starz not making it immediately viewable to fans all over the world — what gives there?)

Anyhow, we’ve got a couple of different stories to get into here, but let’s start with the latest from David Berry talking about why it’s so important that the cast is so welcoming and so friendly towards him. Berry’s story is very appealing — he’s spoken at length about the whirlwind process that led to him landing the Lord John Grey, but also some of the challenges that come with the role. The Australian actor is perhaps having to travel further than anyone to play this part and with that, almost has to reacquaint himself to a completely different schedule. We have to imagine that it is incredibly challenging for him, but it seems like working with a great cast and crew helps to make the whole experience that much easier.

In speaking on the subject to ET Canada in a new interview, here is some of what Berry had to say:

“Everyone on ‘Outlander’ is very close and we get along really well. There is an intimacy in terms of understanding and friendship amongst everyone in the cast. It really translates on camera.

“For me in particular, when I’m in Scotland I’m spending a lot of time away from family … In many ways, the cast and crew really become my second family. It’s not exclusive to me; I think it’s true of Caitriona and Sam and everyone else who is there.”

Consider this another reminder of something we’ve mentioned time and time again — the cast and crew of Outlander are warm, welcoming, and also committed to their craft. Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have done a wonderful job of setting the tone on the set for other people to follow. While it’s not just their responsibility to create a great working environment, they often can lead by example and help to make life easier on everyone.

Speaking of Balfe…

There’s been a little bit of press as of late about her new movie Ford v. Ferrari, premiering in November. Now, how about another first look … this time at her character? In a post on Instagram, Caitriona shared recently a shot of her character Mollie Miles from the movie. For the record, we just love the name Mollie Miles — it feels almost like an alter-ego for a comic-book heroine.

We imagine we’ll have more news on this racing-based historical film before too long — keep your eyes peeled!
