In the opening episode, we’re going to have a chance to see who lived/who died following the crazy cliffhanger from the end of this past premiere. From there, you’re going to have a chance in order to see some of these characters fight in order to properly ensure that they can get back to the FBI, save their jobs, and also stop Madeline from whatever nefarious plot that she is planning to execute. Knowing Madeline, we’re sure that she will continue to stand as a formidable foe — especially with so much more power. It’s going to be hard to see how Jane, Weller, and everyone else make it through this in one piece.
Speaking in a new interview with ET Online, here is some of what show executive producer Martin Gero had to say on the subject of where the writers are going to go, and also if we could see some more familiar faces:
Our primary concern is to not f— up the landing … It’s rare for a show like this to be given the opportunity to actually bring it in for a landing and pay service to the fans, the story, and give it a conclusion. It allows us to have a long goodbye. It’s our senior year, so to speak. When you know it’s your senior year, you can pay service to, like, “This is the last time we’ll probably see this character. How do we honor that?” Or, like, “This is probably the last time we’ll have a moment like this. How do we honor that? How do we honor our fans who have certainly strong varying opinions about our characters and where they’d like to see it end? How do we put our arms around everybody in a way that everyone can feel great about the closing of the show?” I think we’ve come up with something that’s really exciting, especially for our grand finale. But the whole season has this kind of… I don’t want to say sentimentality, but it has this celebratory vibe to it. We can check in on everybody one last time and give our main characters a season to say goodbye.
Gero still isn’t confirming that the vast majority of the main characters survive the cliffhanger, so go ahead and continue to be worried about that for at least the next few weeks. the show probably wants it that way, after all — they want you to be sweating and to make this story as crazy as humanly possible.
