Saturday Night Live finale video: Paul Rudd, DJ Khaled expectations
In the promo below, we think you get a good sense as to some of how Rudd is approaching the gig — with a supreme willingness to make fun of himself at just about every turn. This is vintage Paul Rudd — game for anything and always willing to let someone have the spotlight over himself.

We don’t necessarily have any specific expectation for what could or should happen in the finale, though it would be nice to see SNL do its part to embrace more various contenders in the 2020 race. When is this show going to bring in Maya Rudolph to be Kamala Harris? We’ve already got an Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden ready to go, and we certainly think that Larry David could resurface as Bernie Sanders at just about any point. We’ve already seen Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump SO many times that honestly, we don’t know what else you can really do with it that we haven’t seen already.
Beyond that, just have fun! Go crazy, think outside the box, and just play up big, broad comedy — the sort of thing that people can watch both now and also years from now.
As for musical guest DJ Khaled, you probably know what you’re going to get — but he has spoofed himself so much in other sketches over time that we certainly think that he could do something roughly the same here.
Could someone leave following tonight’s finale?
The good news is that we haven’t heard anything! We did have some serious concerns for a while that we were nearing the end of the road for Kenan Thompson as a full-time cast member, but it does feel like he’s going to stick around — even though his sitcom The Kenan Show was picked up to series. With it not premiering until midseason, that should give him some flexibility and the schedule can probably be worked out to accommodate him sticking around SNL to go along with what he’s wanting to do over there. Consider it the best of both worlds with Kenan.
