Is MacGyver new tonight? Where the story goes from here
Now that we’ve done all of this work to hype you up … we have to now slam the door in your face. MacGyver is not on tonight, as last week was the finale. Not only that, but you’re going to be waiting for a long time still to see what’s coming. Think midseason, which could mean anywhere between January or March, most likely — we’ve discussed the premiere date and more over at the link here, but remember that starting at midseason is not a death sentence. There’s a way to do it and still be around on the air for many years to come.
So rather than just continue to regurgitate some of what we’ve talked about already in this article, let’s move the article elsewhere — and onto story speculation! Where could things go in terms of the drama ahead? Well, there are a number of interesting directions that we could see things go.
For Mac, for example, we do imagine that we’re going to see a deepening of the relationship between him and Desi. Note that doesn’t necessarily mean that the relationship will be romantic, but we do think that they’ll grow a little bit closer as she sticks around as her bodyguard. We, of course, do want to see more of what’s coming when it comes to his relationship with his father. They’ve obviously hit a bump in the road with Elliot Mason, but can they recover from that? Where do the two of them go now?
Elsewhere, we want to explore more of the personal lives of Matty, Bozer, and Riley, and then also just get more fantastic villains and chances to sort of take these characters in unexpected places. Some of our favorite MacGyver episodes are the ones where most of the team is together and tasked to go undercover in order to trick a target. There’s just something creatively satisfying that comes from seeing some of these actors in different roles … even if they are still Mac, Bozer, or someone else. They do often save the day and there is an emotional payoff that comes with that, but we’ll be the first to admit that a part of what we watch for is the big family-celebration moments that happen at the end with the whole team together. That’s what we want to see emphasized even more.
Filming for MacGyver season 4 will kick off later this summer — and hopefully, we’ll have some more news very soon on the subject.
