Bring It Back 2019: Shadowhunters, One Day at a Time advance (Wave 1)
The first wave of CarterMatt’s Bring It Back tournament is now complete, and we’ve got an opportunity now to share and celebrate two shows that are venturing forward into round 2.
So, who are these two shows? Read on for some more information…
Shadowhunters – This was, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the big winner from the first wave of shows that we introduced for voting. Shadowhunters dominated the poll, making it clear that even after the epic series finale, there is so much more that many viewers out there want.
While we know at the moment there are no plans for another season (studio Constantin Film has already failed at finding the series another home on a network/streaming platform), you never know what will happen in the years to come. It should be abundantly clear at this point that the Shadowhunters family is a supportive group like no other, one who fights and rallies and cheers for this series in a way few others do. That’s why we’d never rule out anything when it comes to the series’ future, though it’s clear at the moment that most parties are trying to move forward.
One Day at a Time – The current state of this show’s future is a little more complicated. The Netflix comedy was beloved by critics but unfortunately canceled after three seasons on the service. Executives for Netflix have tried their best in order to defend this move by stating that it just wasn’t performing where it needed to, and they only gave it three seasons on the strength of critical acclaim in the first place.
Yet, where things get a trad frustrating is where Netflix basically has control of the show’s streaming rights, and without them relinquishing that it’s almost impossible to see another network willing to pony up and get the comedy another season. It’s just hard to make a whole lot of money in this modern day and age without a complicated business model that includes streaming sales. There’s still a little bit of hope that things could work out and we could get a season 4 somewhere, but there isn’t any sure-fire news yet.
Luckily, both shows will move forward in this tournament.
When will the Bring It Back semifinals begin?
Think in terms of next weekend! This wave ended a little bit early, mostly because we have scaled out many different waves of the tournament to correspond with the rate in which shows are getting canceled. There have certainly been a flurry of different announcements throughout the past several weeks.
