MacGyver season 4: Levy Tran expected to get series-regular promotion
According to a new report coming in now via Deadline, Levy Tran is expected to receive a series-regular promotion as Desi for the newly-renewed CBS series. This is a move that has long been in the cards for a while. She joined the remake following the departure of George Eads as a series regular, and her character already does have a tie to one Jack Dalton. She’s shown herself to be an extremely valuable asset to the team, whether it be as a bodyguard for Mac or someone who’s unafraid to run into danger. She brings a different energy, and that was entirely the point — when we first spoke with executive producer Peter M. Lenkov about the role, one of the things that he said was that he wanted someone who was very different from Jack.
For the record, the door is still left open for Eads to return — don’t look at Tran’s return as some sort of either/or situation. That’s something worthy examining down the line of George expresses a willingness to go back and the story is right.
MacGyver is going to be coming to a close on Friday night with a powerful episode featuring the arrival of Elliot Mason, a new and super-dangerous villain played by former Robocop star and frequent television director Peter Weller. He is basically the evil version of Mac, someone with similar skills but also someone who is using them for a VERY different reason. Watching that showdown play out is clearly going to be one of the most fascinating parts of this big conclusion, and we firmly expect that this could continue forward into the new season.

As for some other details about season 4…
You’re probably going to have to wait for a while! Yet, at the same time we’ve got a hard time imagining that there’s going to be all that much that changes at least format-wise about the show. MacGyver clearly knows what it is doing, and also how to entertain both original series fans and also those who love the new version. Expect a combination of action, humor, and great family moments.
