NCIS: New Orleans season 5 episode 22 review: Sebastian Lund, superhero
Unfortunately, the problem that we saw for him throughout this episode is that it was hard to get any tangible evidence; not only that, but the one person who could actually help in Mila (who had some shrapnel as a result of the first explosion) was not altogether interested in doing the operation required to do so.
To make matters worse for him, when he was visiting the evidence room there was another explosion, killing the officer (who seemed to be a good threat) and leaving him really hurt. That caused him to have a serious head injury, but apparently, that is not enough for Sebastian to even consider slowing down … not when the other option involves him getting back out on the beat and doing just about everything that he can in order to get Mila to undergo the operation and the case to move forward. He did just that, though he also did pass out along the way.
In the culmination of this story, Pride and Lasalle were able to locate the suspect, or at least they were before he decided to flee. That’s when the big chase scene commenced that saw these guys jumping around tables and trying to scale stairs. It was the sort of escape where, in theory, there were only so many places that the guy could turn. The most impressive thing was that the two made some of those jumps on the building before confronting their guy at gunpoint. Then, it really came down to whether or not he was going to allow himself to be arrested … or allow himself to die.
In this case, he chose to allow himself to die and Pride and Lasalle had to shoot. There’ll be jail time for the others responsible. Despite being considered an action hero for some of the episode, Sebastian’s story tonight did end on a comedic note — with Gregorio trying to take care of him while he complained about her canned soup and grilled cheese.
CarterMatt Verdict
We really were not sure that we’d have a big Sebastian Lund storyline entering NCIS: New Orleans season 5 episode 22, but we were happy to have most of the story as a whole surprise us. What we got here was a perfect sort of look into what makes Sebastian a great agent, whether it be his ability to really tackle tough cases in the field or some of his humanity and charm. The fact that he’s not the typical super-agent actually helps him in some ways, given that it allows him a sort of vulnerability that we’re not altogether sure that he would have otherwise.
