Last Man Standing renewed for season 8 at Fox; see Tim Allen statement
In a statement today, Fox confirmed that they are bringing back their top-rated comedy for another batch of episodes, ones that will likely premiere this coming fall. Beyond that, they’ve also got an official statement from series star Tim Allen:
“Hard to believe Last Man Standing hits 150 episodes this week and it gets better with another upcoming season at FOX! Great news for all of us who are creating these stories and working our pants off to make you all laugh. It’s another big high-five to the legions of loyal fans who have faithfully kept us front and center and huge on the radar. Thanks to our family at Fox who continue to make us feel so at home. Man, if we keep this up, they might have to call our show: Last Man Unable to Stand.”

The journey of Last Man Standing to a season 8 has not been an easy one. Instead, it’s been quite circuitous — just in the past couple of years alone, it’s been canceled by one network, revived by another, and undergone multiple recastings. Even with all of that, this show ended up averaging a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic — almost even with last season! That’s an incredible feat in the DVR era for a show that was off the air for a full year and moving over to a different network, no less.
All of this, in the end, is a real testament to the fans — you’ve got all of the Last Man Standing fans all over the world who fought for this show to return, and then all of them who also fought for the show to be renewed with their viewership this year. It’s a fantastic feat for them and as Allen joked at the very end of the statement, we do think that there’s a reasonably good chance that the show could continue for many more years. One thing that almost certainly will be different for season 8 is that with WWE SmackDown moving over to Fox, it’s going to be airing on a different night. Don’t be shocked if Tuesday ends up becoming the new home.
