SEAL Team season 3 renewal debate: Do you want it back? (Vote!)
In the article below, we map out the case both for another season and for a cancellation — we’re obviously pulling for a renewal, but we gotta give you all of the information! The case for a renewal – We think that the most obvious reason to bring this show back is from an originality standpoint. While during the 2017-18 season military-themed dramas were one of the hot-ticket items, times have changed and they have changed quite quickly. Now, SEAL Team is the last of those shows left that is telling real, unflinching stories of what men and women actually go through both during deployments and back at home. While there’s a lot of action wedged into most episodes, this isn’t some gussied-up procedural that is shoving away reality for the sake of explosions. It’s as real of a show as they come.
Beyond just that, commercially there is a lot of appeal with this show thanks to having a big-ticket star in David Boreanaz and also a premise that could sell extremely well internationally. Even though it may be set around the U.S. military, NCIS has shown that this by no means is a limitation. In the right hands and the right viewers, it can easily find a wide audience in all different parts of the world.
The case against one – The ratings as of late have not been great in the new timeslot — think in terms of a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Maybe that changes with a better lead-in coming in The Amazing Race. We certainly hope that it does. This show is also on a network that has a pretty high threshold for a lot of their shows. SEAL Team overall this season is one that we consider in big danger alongside Madam Secretary and Bull. (We think that SWAT is a little safer than the three.) Of these shows mentioned, we’d be shocked if all three of them return. Which one concludes its run is really going to be up to a lot of intangible things that we can’t even see, like internet streams, budgets, and international factors. CBS has become great at looking at all of this stuff over time.
