Blindspot, Blue Bloods, and The Blacklist ratings all rise
Friday night’s new episode generated a 0.5 rating and also 3.3 million viewers — neither one of these may be tremendous, earth-shattering numbers, but they do at least represent some movement in the right direction. Doesn’t that have to be worth something? This is a show that continues to try and move in a direction where you can have confidence in it, but we’re not anywhere close to breathing easy. We still aren’t getting that much of an inkling one way or another as to what the network wants to do. We’d like to think that NBC would keep it, but we really wouldn’t like to give anyone out there false hope.
(The news for The Blacklist is unequivocally good, given that the James Spader series improved up to a 0.6 rating — it already has a renewal, so any ratings improvement that it posts at this point is more or less gravy.)
Let’s move over now to CBS, where there are a couple of different things worthy of some discussion.
MacGyver – While we think that Lucas Till and the rest of the Phoenix gang are going to be back for another season, it only generated a 0.6 rating last night, and that is for a much-hyped episode that featured the original and new versions of Murdoc going at it. This is one of those episodes where you would assume the show would be able to pull in a lot of those viewers but for one reason or another, it just didn’t quite happen.
Blue Bloods and Hawaii Five-0 – Both of these shows posted a 0.8 rating, which is a total “move along, nothing to see here” rating when it comes to concern. These two shows are almost certainly going to be back, at least from a financial viability perspective. CBS may be losing some ground to some other networks here and there on the schedule, but they’ve got these two timeslots down on lock and have for many years, really to the point where there’s been almost no close competition. We know that eventually there could be people who want to leave the shows and maybe the numbers will fall then, but if you’re CBS you really better be hoping that this doesn’t happen anytime soon. It doesn’t seem like it is, at least for now.
Finally, for those wondering the series finale of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend last night generated a 0.2 rating in the demo and then beyond that, slightly more than 600,000 viewers.
