Blue Bloods season 9 episode 18 review: Jamie, Eddie clash over softball
With Jamie and Eddie, for example, it was about softball — or, how Eddie using that to get close to other cops in a fraternal order was a bad idea. Her new partner Witten suggested that they try this together as a means to bond and meet some other cops, but it was Jamie who claimed it was a bad idea. Why? He felt like this was going to be a situation in which the other cops would use Eddie after she got married and it would only come back to hurt her. (When is this relationship going to actually be public? We certainly thought that it would happen by now.)
Jamie did eventually apologize to Eddie over trying to come down hard on her amidst her debate about softball — and she eventually decided to go out and play. She’ll keep his words in mind, but she still does want to be herself. can you really blame her?
Meanwhile, for Frank he had a tough decision to make: Trying to determine if he needed to institute a larger-scale NYPD fitness exam as a means of ensuring that cops are able to succeed in the field. This divided most of his staff. Gormley, for example, felt like it was a slap to a lot of good, bigger cops who are great at their job and aren’t defined by their weight. However, Garrett thought that it was a good idea — he’s lost a lot of weight and feels like it would benefit other cops to do the same. In the end, Frank did find a way to raise the bar — to try to build the strongest overall foundation for cops from the start without losing a big chunk of the workforce.
Gormley actually found himself tonight in another case, too, as Danny made the difficult decision to re-open one of his cold cases — even though he was warned against it. Danny wanted to get justice without angering Sid, and what he did in order to ensure that he could get that was basically set him up to uncover some information about it himself. Gormley could feel like a winner and, in turn, Danny could get some of what he wanted.
Finally, Anthony begged Erin tonight to go against her boss with one goal here beyond any other — trying to find the best way possible in order to ensure a trial was delayed. This wasn’t easy, but few things often are at the DA’s office. It was also nice seeing Anthony bond with a kid at the center of the case — any chance to see a different side with Anthony is one we’ll celebrate.

Blue Bloods season 9 episode 18 brought out a lot of what we enjoy about this: Stories about tough decisions, relationship conflicts, and also characters willing to respect powerful people … while also finding little positions for them to work, as well.
