Elementary season 7 photo: New look at Jonny Lee Miller, cast
The image above is one of the first ones released by CBS for the new season, which cements further that Detective Bell and Captain Gregson are going to continue factoring into the show — even though Holmes and Watson are kicking things off this time in London at the famed Baker Street residence. This season begins after Sherlock’s departure from America, and based on where things are at the moment, it’s hard to imagine that he’d just be welcomed back there with open arms … unless certain circumstances arise.

With that in mind, don’t you gotta think that some circumstances will? One of the things that we’ve come to learn over time about any crime show is that they almost always find a way to reestablish their equilibrium. The challenge for Elementary is mostly that when the most-recent season came to a close, Rob Doherty and the writers crafted it as a possible series finale. They knew at the time that they wanted Sherlock and Joan to be happy, and to have an ending that would feel perfect. CBS then made the move to bring it back, so the challenge now is finding a way to undo that ending while at the same time trying to not forget about it, either. While we know that eventually, these characters will make it back to the USA and spend some more time with their friends — while of course solving some cases along the way.
Oh, and did we mention that there’s a central villain for season 7? Be prepared to meet Odin Reichenbach, a man played by James Frain who could turn out to be one of Sherlock’s most-notorious adversaries yet. Like some other Big Bads including Michael, we don’t anticipate that he’ll be a part of every episode; yet, he’ll more than likely rear his head here and there to wreak a little havoc and make life that much more uncomfortable. There are some other things we want — including some sort of presence for Jamie Moriarty — but that’s an issue that is better off not being excited about, just in case it never materialized.
