Is MacGyver new tonight on CBS? Season 3 episode 18 expectations
Why is the show off the air tonight? It’s due to a little something known as college basketball, which has a history of plucking CBS’ Friday-night shows off of the air. Here’s the reality of where things stand with this: So long as the broadcast network continues to give you college basketball, it’s going to give you a hiatus in the final weeks of March. Fun false fact: March Madness is actually named that for how mad viewers get when their shows are taken off the air. (Hey, we said “false” for a reason.)

So when is MacGyver going to return to CBS? Think Friday, April 5, and with an episode featuring the return of David Dastmalchian as Murdoc as well as Michael Des Barres as Nicholas Helman. We’ve reported about this extensively already, including venting some frustration about the fact that this show was also preempted recently due to the Gayle King – R. Kelly interview. The original plan was for it to air last week, but everything on the schedule got pushed back and messed with a little bit.
When the April 5 episode ends, we think that there are a few things about it that will make it worth your while — think in terms of intense action, fantastic performances, and a chance to see Murdoc potentially even face off against his old mentor. There’s so much craziness that will be wedged into this episode and it could prove to be a treat for both fans of the original and people like us, who weren’t as active with the first version but love the remake with Lucas Till. It’s going to bring you everything you wait, and maybe throw in a few surprise curveballs to keep you guessing every step of the way.
One other thing to ponder over is this: Whether or not there could be a season 4 renewal for MacGyver by the time the show comes back! With the upcoming PaleyFest panel coming for all three editions of the Peter M. Lenkov universe, we do wonder if there’s going to be a chance to hear some glorious news shouting from the mountaintops. Typically, CBS renews most of their longtime shows at once in a big statement, but there’s a case to be made for doing this in front of the first time in front of throngs of people who adore this show. Save for maybe Sunset on the Beach, this is one of the biggest gatherings of these fans in a single place — it’s certainly the biggest gathering for people in Los Angeles who can’t make the trip out to Hawaii.
