Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 20 spoilers: Why Abigail Spencer is back

Meredith - Riggs - Megan

Interested in getting some details on Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 20? Let’s go ahead and make it clear that the existence of the hype train for this episode revolves around the presence of Abigail Spencer. She’s back! This is the first network TV appearance for Spencer since the Timeless movie and while we obviously wish that there were more Time Team adventures coming down the pipeline, at least we received a fitting ending — now, we get to see what Megan Hunt is doing back in the Greater Grey Sloan Universe.

Last we saw Megan, she was heading down to California with Riggs, hoping to create some sort of new life for themselves there … which we imagine is infinitely better than the old life where Riggs went for years thinking that she was dead. Also, clearly Meredith’s moved on from that Riggs relationship with DeLuca, even if it’s still in the “is this really going to work or not?” phase of things.

So why in the world is she back? After reading the synopsis below it makes us want to ask a different question though — what’s wrong with Owen?

Owen and Teddy have to deal with the surprise arrival of Megan Hunt, who knows nothing about their situation. Catherine preps for her first surgery back on a war veteran who’s not emotionally prepared for his procedure. Meredith worries about DeLuca operating alone with Richard.

Why in the world isn’t Owen telling his sister that he and Teddy are having a baby? Why keep that info from your own sister? All of this is baffling, given that Owen spent years thinking she was dead and we imagined that he would spend every single second trying to make up for lost time — you know, actually including her in his life. You don’t have to tell her what flavor of bagel you’re having in the morning; however, it would be kind-of nice to tell her that you’re having a baby. Does she even know about Leo? If Owen’s not going to tell her about one big personal change to his life, is he really saying a whole lot else? We know that Megan’s not in the same state, but there is such a thing in a telephone, or a computer, that you can use in order to get into contact with someone and share some of the things happening in your life.

Spencer’s been busy since first appearing on Grey’s Anatomy last season. In addition to Timeless season 2 and the follow-up movie (we’re never giving up hope for more down the road), she’s also reprised her role as Scottie on Suits and is set to star in the new Hulu series Reprisal. It’s hard to get her back for a ton of episodes here, mostly because she’s making a ton of episodes’ worth of content elsewhere. Also, Grey’s Anatomy likes to juggle a dozen or so storyline-torches at one time; if they abandon one of them to long, it’s likely to set everything on fire. (If that happens, do they call in Station 19 in order to fix it?)

The next new Grey’s Anatomy episode is airing on ABC Thursday night — if you find yourself curious enough for more info, check out the latest scoop here.
