New Amsterdam episode 17 return date hopes for Ryan Eggold, cast

If you enjoyed tonight’s all-new episode, it makes sense to wonder the following — what’s the New Amsterdam episode 17 return date?

We wish we come to you bearing good news, the sort that would make Ryan Eggold’s Dr. Max Goodwin and the rest of the staff rejoice. That’s just not the case in this instance. Alas, what we’ve got to tell you instead is that there is a pretty-hefty hiatus coming on the other side of the horizon.

According to a new report from the Futon Critic, new next new episode of New Amsterdam may not air until (insert ominous drum roll) … April 9. That is a long time to wait, but there is a method to some of the show’s madness. They want to ensure that there is a solid, consistent run of episodes coming at the end of the season without any more breaks in between. This is the best way to make that happen.

There is also another reason for the hiatus, and it has to do mostly with the launch of NBC’s upcoming series The Village. For the next couple of weeks, the network is in full “let’s promote this new show” mode. That means trying to use This Is Us and the remainder of its season to try and help promote this new endeavor, which will take its place once it comes to a close. Remember, New Amsterdam already has that sweet, sweet season 2 renewal. Because of that, there isn’t really much of a reason for concern that this hiatus = some sort of intentional sabotage. That’s not what this is. Instead, it’s the network showing confidence in New Amsterdam and not worrying about its performance the rest of the season.

So what do we want to see next?

Much of it starts with getting a few more slivers of hope for one Max Goodwin, since there’s nothing all that joyous about the idea of him spending the better part of the series constantly looking over his shoulder and seeing if the Grim Reaper is there. We want to see him get better, and we want to see him have an element of stability and legitimate joy in his life. He’s sabotaged himself at times because of his own ambition to medicine and his desire to help pretty much everyone who does not have “Goodwin” in their last name.

Elsewhere, we want Dr. Bloom to feel a little bit better, for Dr. Reynolds to be there for her, and for there to be cases that are new, challenging, but also human. Don’t lose sight of who these people are for the sake of some “OMG” case that the writers are convinced will somehow blow the doors open on the medical community.
