Hawaii Five-0 season 9 episode 19 preview: Willie Garson returns!
So where do we even begin with this one? How about with the return of Willie Garson! He’s one of our favorite character actors out there (we also love both White Collar and Sex and the City), so we’re always thrilled to get a little bit of Gerard Hirsch thrown into the mix. When you read the synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below and also consider this character’s history, we don’t think we have to tell you why he’s showing up now:
“Pupuhi ka he’e o kai uli” – Five-0 investigate the murder of a window washer and find that the victim is actually a renowned street artist who may have a politically motivated bounty on his head. Also, Grover and Adam look into the murder of a gambler, and Junior helps his father when they are reminded of his sister’s death, on HAWAII FIVE-0, Friday, March 15 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Let’s face it — there aren’t too many art connoisseurs within the Five-0, but there are people there who are clearly quite good at other things. Take Steve, who is very good at fighting bad guys and playfully arguing with Danny. Meanwhile, Jerry is great at conspiracy theories and Adam is very good at making viewers concerned over some perceived moral ambiguity. Everybody’s got their skill!
Speaking on Adam, that synopsis makes it clear that he’s got a big case within this episode — sure, the victim stands out, but so does the fact that we haven’t really seen too many direct Adam/Grover team-ups. When you’ve got a cast this big it makes a certain degree of sense to play around with different combinations and chemistry. They call it “chemistry” for a reason — you are throwing different ingredients into a cauldron and trying to figure out exactly what sort of reaction you get. (Hopefully, it doesn’t blow up the room — it feels like we’ve got enough explosions elsewhere with this show.)
You will get your emotional fix in this episode from the Junior Reigns story, which makes sense given Beulah Koale’s amazing ability to just bring you to these raw, vulnerable places. This is a guy who has a lot of pain underneath that tough exterior, and a lot of it has to do with some of the people he’s lost; his father may be alive, but has wandered in and out of his life in such a way that you would think they were thousands of miles away. You can have a moment where the bridge starts to be rebuilt, but it can crumble with just one wrong move. They have to stay determined to keep building that bridge, one plank at a time and one footstep after the next.
