The Resident season 2 episode 17 return date: The big showdown
The distressing news worth noting here first is that despite just coming back from a brief hiatus tonight, there’s not another one coming up. There is no new episode next week, and then the uncertainty for The Resident concludes with a new episode on Monday, March 18. Given that this is also when 9-1-1 is returning with new episodes, we imagine that there’s going to be at least a little more schedule stability for the final run of episodes. Even if there are a couple more weeks of hiatus wedged in there somewhere, we’ll at least be at a point where there are more new episodes left than guaranteed repeats.
Along the way we’re going to be holding out hope for that season 3 renewal — it feels likely, but this is the world of television and it feels silly to take anything for granted.
So why should you be psyched about The Resident season 2 episode 17? The simple answer is that this episode contains the long-awaited showdown with Quovadis, the evil corporation whose actions are really defining the better part of this season. While we suppose it’s possible that the storyline lasts longer than this episode, the words “once and for all” in the synopsis that we have for you below suggests that we’re near the end of the road — and that can be a good thing:
The surgeons work together to save the life of the Raptor’s old mentor, Abe (guest star Mike Pniewski), who is their only inside source to Quovadis. Unfortunately, when Nic and Conrad take on a patient needing the hospital’s only viable ECMO machine, they must decide between saving the life of Abe or saving the life of their younger, more stable patient. Meanwhile, Marshall puts himself in serious danger to help take down Gordon Page once and for all in the all-new “Betrayal” episode of THE RESIDENT airing Monday, March 18 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Don’t get us wrong — the Quovadis storyline has provided a great deal of drama and we would say that overall, its contributions to this season are a net positive. Yet, at the same time we can’t say that it would be good to keep running it to the finale. There’s so much more in the medical world to spotlight than a device company that somehow feels like the mob — the more that The Resident can uncover and discuss some of that great stuff, the better off the series will be. We still have enough time for a pretty meaty arc on the other side, and it’d be cool if it’s a little more personal and geared specifically towards some of the show’s main characters.
