Wynonna Earp season 4 campaign goes to Times Square

Wynonna Earp

It’s been a little over a week now since the news first broke that something was amiss within the world of Wynonna Earp season 4, and here’s the bad news: Something is still amiss.

Last week, we cautioned both in article/video form that the issues revolving around the show were not going to be resolved within a short window of time. (You can watch our video on the subject below — to stay up to date with our Wynonna Earp videos subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube!)

We’re dealing here with publisher IDW who is reportedly facing some financial difficulties, one that is making it difficult for them to deliver the upcoming season as planned. Syfy already renewed Wynonna Earp for both a season 4 and season 5, knowing that they have a universal hit on their hands. This is a show that is funny, inspirational, action-packed, and inclusive; really, it’s the sort of thing any network would be crazy to cancel. They’ve now been left out on a lurch and they’re not alone. A number of other people are all currently feeling the same combination of disappointment and frustration from people working on the show to all of the fans who have been waiting since last summer for new episodes.

There haven’t been too many concrete updates on the future of the show as of late, and here’s the sad reality of this situation: There’s no actual timetable for when there could be more updates. It’s basically just “whenever there is more news to report.” IDW Entertainment already issued a statement saying that they are “committed” to the future of the franchise, but it was a reasonably-vague statement that failed to offer much clarity when it comes to the future of the series itself.

In the midst of the aggravation, it would be easy to understand if the show’s devoted Earper fanbase became a little downtrodden. That’s not happening; instead, they are the Phoenix bringing the entire cast and crew up from the ashes. They’ve made #FightForWynonna into a global phenomenon and they are promoting the show using everything from t-shirts to social campaigns to even now a billboard in Times Square! (Check out a photo of it below via executive producer Emily Andras.) This has proven itself to be a worthy way of getting attention — it is something that folks within the world of Timeless and Shadowhunters have done in the past and it’s certainly a cool way to express your love IN THE BIGGEST WAY POSSIBLE. Even though these billboards may last for a short period of time in New York City, the memories and photos are forever, especially in the social media age.

If you love Wynonna Earp, consider this billboard a sign that nobody is giving up (not that we ever think even for a second that anyone ever would) — as a matter of fact, the longer things go without news, the more vocal we expect fans to become. We’ve said this before, but we’re still cautiously optimistic that a solution will come about and one way or another, and that the series will continue — even if Syfy gets more involved from an ownership standpoint after previously licensing the show. It just means too much to so many people and also serves as a great springboard for a lot of the other programs the network has.

Are you still hopeful that a Wynonna Earp season 4 could happen?

Be sure to share some of your thoughts on that subject in the comments. (Photo: Syfy.)
