Ratings: The Masked Singer’s monster finale; All American episode 13 up
So how big were the ratings for the last episode? Let’s start with the fact that the first hour — which was basically just an extended recap for most of the season — still generated a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Basically, a bona fide clip show more than doubled the demo audience for any other show on the night other than Survivor, which still posted an admirable 1.5 despite the competition. (Typically it and The Masked Singer do not air opposite each other.)
The second hour is where this show truly shined, as it drew a fittingly-monster rating of 3.6. It’s one of the best ratings we’ve seen for a primetime unscripted show in quite some time or at least one that was not aided by an NFL game airing beforehand. This speaks heavily to the promotional effort that Fox did on this show, but also what the producers of The Masked Singer did so well. It would have been easy to make this entire series into something that was just silly and stupid; however, the celebrities took this seriously and they really bought into the concept. Sure, some of the judges’ guesses were terrible, but there’s nothing really in here that we want to see change. This is a show that worked really well in the form in which it was presented. (The only thing we’d change is to make the clues a little bit harder since so many of the celebrities were easy to identify from the stars.)
Given how it was mentioned at the end of the finale that season 2 will be on “soon,” we wouldn’t be shocked by a return either this summer or fall. We do take that to mean that we’re probably not going to be forced to wait until January to see more of the concept.
What else is worth noting?
The latest from All American – One of the best dramas in television is suffering from the fact that not enough viewers know about it. That still remains, but we can at least confirm the numbers are up slightly on Wednesday’s outing from the most-recent outing earlier in the month. How much so? Think in terms of more than 7% in the demo as well as total viewers. It may not be enough to save the show (it is still drawing a 0.2 rating in the demo, after all), but it’s a start.
How about One Chicago? – One day removed from the glorious news that all of its shows will be returning for another season, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD drew a 1.2, 1.2, and 1.1 rating respectively. These numbers won’t leave your jaw hanging on the floor, but they’re solid — certainly solid enough to celebrate!
