In the event that you haven’t heard, Law & Order: SVU season 20 episode 16 will mark the return of Dean Winters as Cassidy. He’s one of the more-noteworthy members of the show’s extended family, and every time he turns up there’s always some compelling drama around him. He’s also a complicated character, given that he’s not always on the same side as Olivia Benson or the rest of the team. He’s needed her help before, and entering this episode, we’re going to see him in a position where he needs a little bit of something more from her.

Below, CarterMatt offers up the official SVU season 20 episode 16 synopsis for some additional information when it comes to what’s ahead:

02/21/2019 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Thursday) : DEAN WINTERS GUEST STARS IN 450TH EPISODE -A young man’s suicide sparks a child molestation investigation, and Benson (Mariska) turns to Cassidy (Winters) when the case hits a dead end. Also starring Ice T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino and Philip Winchester. Also guest starring William Sadler (Gary Dolan), Selenis Leyva (Samantha Morgan) and Justin Mark (Micah Fuller). TV-14 D, L, V

The 450th episode is a cool milestone! It’s not the sort of thing that you would immediately think about, but basically almost any milestone that SVU hits these days is uncharted territory for a show within the social-media age.

So why would Benson want to turn to Cassidy for help here? Well, one of the things that she does know very well about him at this point is that he approaches things a little bit differently than anyone else. He’s brash at times, but he is good at his job and he can often approach things with a unique perspective. He’s a great guest star to bring back once or twice a season for the sake of mixing things up — we just wish that there were some other people we could see with the same sort of regularity, whether it be Cabot or Trevor. How has we not seen Trevor in over a year at this point?

Here’s a little bit of fun Law & Order trivia

William Sadler is an exceptional character actor who is appearing in this episode, and this actually marks the fourth edition of the franchise that he’s appeared in — he’s also turned up on the flagship show, Criminal Intent, and then also Trial By Jury. If only he had appeared in the short-lived spin-off based in Los Angeles, this could somehow be even cooler for him.
