Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 11: is Debbie Allen leaving? Thatcher returns

Jeff Perry

When Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 11 arrives to ABC in one week, there are several notable things you can expect. The biggest one may very well be an enormous blast from the past. Even though it’s been ages since Jeff Perry has appeared on the series as Meredith’s father Thatcher, he is coming back for what could be a very-important story in “The Winner Takes It All.”

So what do we know about Thatcher’s return right now? We know that he’s not doing particularly well, and we also know very well that he and Meredith don’t exactly have the best relationship in the world. This is something that is going to have to be addressed within this episode alongside a number of other things. Meredith’s story is going to be huge within this episode, but it’s also not the only story that you’re going to have a chance to see.

Below, CarterMatt offers up the official Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 11 synopsis with some more information all about what’s next:

Amelia and Koracick tackle a daunting surgery on Catherine while Richard and Jackson hope for the best. Meanwhile, Richard urges Meredith to visit her father, Thatcher (Jeff Perry), before his time is up.

For those who love the dynamic between Amelia and Koracick, clearly you’re going to have a chance to check out a lot of it in this episode and we absolutely embrace that. Tom’s an interesting dude with a very unique viewpoint on the world around him — he’s also a brilliant surgeon, so there are few people out there who Catherine should rely on more. This episode could end up being the thing that determines most of her future, so you do have to cross your fingers and hope that something is successful. If things don’t work out as planned in advance, you’re going to run into all sorts of unforeseen consequences.

It may sound somewhat silly, but a lot of our confidence for this particular episode really stems from the sheer gravitas of the name. “The Winner Takes It All” as a song is one of the most-iconic ones out there and anytime that we think of that, it carries with it a connotation of a battle, something with clearly-defined victors and those who were not so lucky.

For the record, there’s no clear sign Debbie Allen is leaving Grey’s Anatomy — it hasn’t been announced. Yet, don’t put it past the show to surprise you, either.
