Ratings: America’s Got Talent: The Champions, The Bachelor tops Celebrity Big Brother

Entering Monday night’s primetime lineup, we had a feeling that there would be an interesting ratings battle. We had America’s Got Talent: The Champions facing off against a couple of other big shows — think along the lines of The Bachelor and also Celebrity Big Brother, which was airing its first episode of the season. We weren’t entirely sure how these three episodes were going to all coexist but they were going to have to find a way to make it happen. So how did it all shake out when it comes to the ratings?

In the end, we don’t think that there are any big losers from last night, at least when it comes to reality TV. In terms of total viewers, AGT: The Champions closed out the night #1 with almost 10 million people watching. As far as the 18-49 demographic goes, it ended up tying The Bachelor for the top prize. Celebrity Big Brother, meanwhile, ended up posting a 1.4 rating in its premiere — we didn’t expect it to beat the other two shows, and really, it didn’t have to. What matters more than anything else is that it continues to post numbers around this number and there are a lot of viewers who go out and buy CBS All Access to watch the live feeds. So long as that happens, CBS will probably keep this show going as long as possible.

CBS will get another chance to test Celebrity Big Brother tonight, as the show is airing another new episode in the spot that typically belongs to NCIS. We don’t expect too many ratings fluctuations at the moment.

Other ratings news worth noting

Magnum PI, predictably, didn’t really keep any of its post-AFC Championship ratings. It scored a 0.7 rating, which puts it right back on the ratings bubble once more. Meanwhile, The Passage slipped down to a 1.0 following its premiere outing — that’s a pretty hefty drop, and its future now is going to depend heavily on whether or not they can steady the ship.

Also, The Good Doctor posted a very solid 1.2 rating in the demo in the 10:00 p.m. timeslot, which managed to topple both Manifest (1.0) and also Bull (0.8). The status of all of these shows are still up in the air, but we feel a little more confident about the first two shows than we do the last one.
