Following tonight’s AFC Championship Game, tomorrow is going to bring you a chance to see Magnum PI episode 13 on CBS. Why so soon? Well, we think that if you are the network, you’re probably excited about the opportunity to boost the show’s ratings may giving viewers a chance to check out more of the show almost immediately. Therefore, if they like what they see tonight, they don’t have to make anyone wait all that long to see what’s on the other side. It’s a fairly smart strategy for them to take on, and it’s something that some other shows have employed in the past coming off of a big Championship Game airing.

So what is going to be coming up in terms of the actual story next week? Well, “Day of the Viper” is going to mark a great opportunity to get Higgins in the spotlight courtesy of someone from MI6 turning up. If you like this show really diving in and showcasing characters, this will be one of your favorite episodes of the season. The stakes for Higgins have almost never been higher, as we’re going to see this storyline bring back someone who is responsible for killing one of the great loves of her life.

Below, CarterMatt has the official Magnum PI episode 13 synopsis with some more news as to what’s coming:

“Day of the Viper” – Magnum and Higgins are shocked when one of her former MI6 teammates shows up with a fresh gunshot wound and news that “the Viper,” the assassin who killed Higgins’ true love, has surfaced on Oahu. Also, while Magnum’s busy helping Higgins track down the Viper, he asks Rick to take over a case, a task that Rick relishes until it goes sideways, on MAGNUM P.I., Monday, Jan. 21 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

We think that the Rick storyline is probably going to be the part of this episode that plays a little bit lighter; we definitely do think that the show likes to have that humor source, and we certainly do think that there are good opportunities for comedy on this show on an almost-regular basis. A part of that is due to the tone of the extended Peter M. Lenkov universe.

For those wondering, there is still one other episode of Magnum PI this month beyond episode 13 — clearly, CBS wants to deliver as many great episodes as soon as possible following tonight’s big airing.
