In the sneak peek below (via People Magazine), you can see the two having a nice conversation after what they went through on the group date. This leads into a surprisingly nuanced (for The Bachelor) conversation about age and how that really doesn’t matter so much (something that we know on a personal level since we have a 12 year age difference from our spouse of ten years). Elyse knows where she stands as one of the older contestants on the season — and yes, it’s totally ridiculous that her being 31 is somehow old at all. She’s not worried about Colton being younger, mostly because there is a distinction between age and life experience. You can be 22 and have gone through a lot; meanwhile, you could be 45 and be somehow still completely sheltered or naive. It’s mostly about who you are and how you view the world.
Colton is only 26 (he’ll turn 27 later this month), and he is one of the youngest Bachelors that we’ve seen on the show in recent memory. Yet, he doesn’t seem too concerned about that or have any judgment on the age of some of the women he is with on the show. The one thing that we feel for him the most about are the people who judge him immediately because of his virginity and assume that this is a sign of either inexperience or immaturity. It’s really just a choice that he’s made and this one choice doesn’t really define the rest of his life experiences … regardless of how much ABC may choose to promote this as the most important factor in who he is as a person.
What should you expect tonight?
There are a number of celebrities who will be stopping by — Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman are going to be involved in one group date, whereas you’re going to have an opportunity in order to see Billy Eichner in the other. Hannah Brown is going to be the first one-on-one date recipient of the season, which is both a blessing and a curse. The good news is that it gives them an opportunity to make a quick connection. However, the bad news is that it forces them into a position where they don’t know the person they are with all that well and there is so much more pressure for it to go well.
