The Bachelor episode 2 spoilers: Demi Burnett ‘claims’ group-date rose

Demi Burnett

The Bachelor is strangely a lot like professional baseball — there are official rules, and then there a lot of unwritten ones. Apparently, one of the big ones is that if there is a rose lying around on a group date, you don’t just pick it up and claim it as yours. That rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

In the new video sneak peek below via Entertainment Weekly, you can get a reasonably-good idea as to what is coming up in this episode as Demi Burnett decides, right in the middle of a group date, to pick up the rose and temporarily say that it’s hers. There are two things to consider here.

1. She’s obviously joking – She doesn’t even say it with a straight face!

2. She doesn’t hold onto it – She picks it up for about three seconds before putting it back down.

So why is everyone else so upset about this in confessionals? The general consensus is that it’s rude and perhaps arrogant and immature for her to make this assumption or rub it in everyone else’s face. She obviously feels confident about her chances with Colton and that’s fine. Yet, why do you need to play up having an antagonistic relationship with some of the other women in the house? It’s not a good strategy for winning the season, but it’s certainly a good one for being on Bachelor in Paradise and/or getting airtime. Maybe that is Demi’s goal, since some of the previews that are already out there for this season suggest strongly that we are looking at her as the villain for at least some of the season.

The part of this that we do find funny is the confession in which she’s accused of not having enough life experience — Demi may have problems, but with everything that’s happened with her past, we’re not sure life experience is one of them. We just think that she’s got an attitude and a philosophy to playing this game that’s different from everyone else. It’s easy to say that she will never win, but remember that there have certainly been super-competitive contestants that the rest of the house didn’t like who have come out on top before.
