America’s Got Talent: The Champions video: Darci Lynne, Oscar sing ‘Proud Mary’
A part of the excitement that comes with watching America’s Got Talent: The Champions is getting to see evolution — especially for younger performers like Darci Lynne. This is someone who was great back when she won her season of the show, but she’s had time to tour and hone her craft more than ever. She was able to come back to the show tonight effectively a more polished version of herself than ever before.

To go along with the aforementioned personal video, below you can see Darci belt out, both as her mouse puppet Oscar and also herself, a mash-up of “Nutbush City Limits” and “Proud Mary.” This is the benefit that comes with being on the road and really building up your act — this was more than just a standard performance — we’re talking about two different songs and two different voices that she had to alternate between. There’s such a degree of difficulty here and that’s why it is easy to imagine her getting another golden buzzer and quick trip to the next round. (Ironically, Darci has already had one of these on the show in the past.)
Is it possible that Darci could end up winning this entire season? Absolutely it is, largely because she brings something to the table that really only a select few can. Good ventriloquists are so rare that when you see a good one, there is an eagerness that goes along with that. It’s fun to see someone who has this talent and really works to hone it and make it even better. It just puts a smile on your face, and what we also like is that her natural stage banter with her puppets is also improving. Having that comedy here is equally important to the singing.
As for competition, there is one other ventriloquist taking part in this season in Paul Zerdin, who has also won a season of this show — though it was a good bit of time in the past. Darci is probably the favorite of the two just because her act is so unique and beyond that, she is the more recent winner.
