For those who do not know, Brown and Miller-Keyes were both a part of the 2018 Miss USA Pageant, and Miller-Keyes actually ended up being named first runner-up behind champion Sarah Rose Summers, who ended up competing recently in Miss Universe. It’s fairly unusual to have contestants on this show or The Bachelor with a preexisting relationship, but at the same time, it has certainly happened before and almost certainly will happen again. It’s too hard to imagine a world in which it doesn’t when there are some people with past TV experience / fame that the show wants.
What we’re mostly curious about when it comes to The Bachelor tonight is precisely how much producers really want to lean into the two women’s competition experience — does this make them more competitive with each other? What’s their relationship like? These are things that could be rather interesting to watch unfold throughout the season, since it is some obvious connective tissue that is going to be rather hard for the show to ignore.
In general, though, being a former pageant contestant is the sort of thing that doesn’t guarantee success on this show or close to it. We’ve seen many of them go home fairly early on in seasons before; really, we think Bachelors tend to care more about personality and chemistry than they do what sort of experience that you have in the pageant world. If they connect to you odds are that they will continue to be interested in you moving forward. (Note that Caelynn’s sash in the photo above actually says “Miss Underwood” — she’s going for something clever here as opposed to just flaunting around her pageant title in front of the show’s leading man.)
Be on the lookout for this story throughout the season — even if the show doesn’t focus on it, we are still curious given that it’s such an unusual circumstance. (We suppose the one time in which The Bachelor emphasized contestants with a preexisting relationship more than any other was when Emily and Haley Ferguson were on board.)
