Golden Globes 2019: Where is the In Memoriam segment?
Ultimately, this brings us to the main question that we want to hand down now: Where is the In Memoriam segment? As you watch the show, this is something that could come up over time … but it turns out that there is a perfectly rational reason for it. While it may be hard to remember this year-to-year, the Golden Globes, actually does not do an In Memoriam segment and they never have. It’s just not really woven into the overall fabric of this particular show. They recognize that there are some fantastic ones on some other awards shows and they just leave that honor to them.
Are we surprised by this? Not excited, mostly because of the fact that the Globes do have to cram in more content than the majority of other awards shows that are out there. Not only do they have to find a way to recognize some of the best that the TV world has to offer, but then you’ve also got film in there, plus at least a few moments for the show’s hosts in Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh. Tonally, it is also lighthearted and sometimes, that does make implementing some sort of larger In Memoriam segment a little bit more difficult. That could actually be even harder when you think for a moment about the size of the stage and being able to make something special there.
So, in lieu of there being a proper In Memoriam segment, let’s at least take a moment out here to list out some of the people we have lost: Penny Marshall, Stan Lee, Scott Wilson, Burt Reynolds, Reg E. Mathey, and more. This was a tough year when it comes to losing iconic entertainers, and we know that in their respective spaces they will be honored and tributed for quite some time moving forward.
