America’s Got Talent: The Champions video: Alex Magala, sword swallower, risks his life

Alex is a veteran from the Got Talent franchise, having performed on a number of editions of the show over the years in addition to winning the Russian version of the series years ago. We’ve seen a few different sword swallowers over the years, but Alex is by far the best. He recognizes that it’s not just about the craft and art of what he does — it’s also about the way in which he delivers it. Presentation is critical for an act like this and Alex really makes you feel like he’s risking his life.
First, what Alex does that is so impressive is having Simon Cowell pull the first sword out of his mouth — that is him showing a judge just how legitimate this is. Beyond that, Alex also does a flip with a sword in his mouth and then also dangles with one in the air. If all of that was not enough, at the end of the clip you have an opportunity here to see him take out an enormous sword, climb into the air, and perform a death drop at the very end.
There is something rather appealing about watching someone going on a show like this and being willing to risk their life. If nothing else, we absolutely respect some of the hustle that the man is bringing to the table here.
Will Alex win?
Probably not, mostly because this is the sort of act that never wins the American version of the show. These sort of acts never get the respect that they are due and it is absolutely infuriating much of the time that it shakes out that way. Still, this show is great exposure for him and we think that there are probably a number of shows all over the world that are happy to have him. That is really his upside more than anything that comes from being on a show like this.
