Daredevil season 4 renewal campaign picks up more steam, organization
Even though the future of Daredevil remains very much unclear, you cannot ignore the effort some of the fans are putting in.
Last month at the CarterMatt Awards, Daredevil took home the Bring It Back Award — one meant to recognize the show most worthy of coming back for another batch of episodes. That was really just the fandom scratching the surface of what they’re capable of. Many familiar faces, including Kingpin himself in Vincent D’Onofrio, are on board the effort to save the show — there’s even a full-fledged website all about the campaign.
We’ve been around a number of save-our-show campaigns for some time now, and the thing that’s the most impressive right now about what Daredevil is doing is how organized the fans are. They have a petition with more than 50,000 signatures on it, there are Twitter campaigns, and it feels like there’s potentially still for this movement to escalate even further than it has.
Netflix didn’t do Daredevil any favors for a couple of different reasons, with the first one being the obvious cancellation itself. That’s something that is devastating to the cast, crew, and viewers alike, and it was made even worse by the timing of it. Because of when the cancellation was announced and the holiday season that followed, it’s a little bit harder to get traction. Now that this is over, though, there is a chance in the new year for this movement to spread further than it has.
Does Daredevil deserve another season?
We don’t think there’s any doubt on that. It’s coming off of arguably its best season with some of its best writing, and its fight scenes have always been on another level. Also, as a visually-impaired writer there’s something about Matt Murdock that is personally appealing. It’s a show that seemingly was also canceled due to factors that were outside of its control — while we don’t think that the viewership was at season 1 level by any means (Netflix doesn’t publicly release data), the end of the show seemed to be more due to Netflix distancing itself from Marvel and Disney more than anything else. Its end certainly does not suggest good things for Jessica Jones and The Punisher, which each also have some additional seasons that are coming onto the streaming service in the future.
Helping Daredevil is, in some way, helping all of the Marvel shows that have been canceled. If it ends up landing somewhere, it’s a reminder that these fans don’t give up and that quality carries the day.
