Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen episode 6: Should Brother Luck, Nini Nguyen return?

Top Chef -

Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen episode 6 is a pivotal one when it comes to the future of the competition. After all, the winner here will manage to head back into the competition!

The final competition this time around with Brother Luck and Nini Nguyen was interesting. For starters, pretty much every contestant this season was involved! Brother and Nini had to finish conceptualizing their ideas for their mock restaurant, which included them improving a dish that they made in part 1. (Read more about that part over at the link here.)

Not only did Brother and Nini have to get some food together for Tom, but they also needed to do so for all of the previously-eliminated chefs! That’s where this season’s crop of contestants came into play. The remaining ten chefs ended up splitting up and helping the two of them complete their dishes, which did lead to some interesting comedy in that Justin ended up working with Nini. The feeling was that Justin threw Nini under the bus to save himself in that part of the competition, and while there could have been some hard feelings between the two here, there really wasn’t. Justin was eager to work with Nini in order to ensure that her food was as tasty as humanly possible. He worked hard, and really, both teams worked hard.

We do think that Brother had a clear disadvantage here, mostly because Nini already knew these chefs and understood what they brought to the table. Brother didn’t even know who these people were and had to just approach this as business-like as humanly possible. (The winning team did get an advantage moving forward, which was an incentive for Brother’s team to not just throw this.) We knew that the two were extremely talented and because of that, this really just came down to who could deliver on the concept and also get their team firing on all cylinders.

Here’s the twist…

Of course, Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen never reveals who actually goes back into the competition! They always save that for a show and that’s somewhat of a bummer. What was a little bit more of a surprise is that we didn’t even get to see the results of the final dish! It seemed like Nini maybe had a slight edge on the first course and then Brother the second. We do think that Brother is the best contestant in Last Chance Kitchen history, at least in terms of winning these battles. With that being said, though, we think Nini has a serious chance of winning this season if she makes it back.
