Luther season 5 episode 2 preview: Cornelius’ plan; Luther’s struggle

Luther

Want to know some of what’s coming up on Luther season 5 episode 2? Well, we should start off with a reminder that for John Luther, things often get worse far before they get better. That’s what is going to happen here, as Luther is going to find himself in a precarious position and also must figure out how to compartmentalize and focus on the investigation that matters the most — which may not be easy, given everything that is starting to build and escalate in his life.

Beyond just the story of this episode, one thing that you certainly need to remember is that it is actually coming on the air tomorrow! BBC One is not making you wait all that long to get more of this story, as they are airing all four parts of this special one right after the next. By Friday, the entire fifth season will be over … which is probably unfortunate for those who wish that they could at least have it last a little while longer. This is a show notorious for taking long breaks so on the other side of this, it’s very well possible that you won’t find out anything more on the series’ future in more than a year.

Anyhow, let’s get back now to discussing some of the story of what’s coming up next. CarterMatt has the official Luther season 5 episode 2 synopsis below:

The police and Cornelius (Patrick Malahide, pictured) converge on Luther’s home.

With Halliday (Wunmi Mosaku) convinced that the body in the morgue isn’t their killer, can Luther put his own troubles to one side and find the true murderer before they strike again?

In advance of this episode, the BBC didn’t really give all that much away — but can you really be surprised by that? Based on the teasers that were put out there, clearly there were a number of surprises that are coming up for longtime fans of the series.

The Alice Morgan of it all

Just based on the hype before the season, it should feel clear to just about everyone that this is the series’ white whale at present. Perhaps more than anything, this is what needs to be paid off and with that, this is the series’ greatest overall struggle. How can you do justice to one of the series’ biggest characters and a person who has had such a connection to John Luther from the beginning? It’s an almost-impossible challenge to take on.
