CarterMatt Awards 2018 results: Lucifer’s Joe Henderson, Ildy Modrovich win Showrunner prize
We’re back with another edition of CarterMatt Awards 2018 results today, and the focus is on a category that we always like to showcase: Favorite Showrunner. We’ve certainly come to learn over time that a victory for a show is a victory for a showrunner, given that they are the captain / captains that steer the ship. Without them, there’s no way a series gets off the ground!
Yet, we like doing this category because it offers up a chance to actually put a spotlight on these hardworking-people and gives them a platform that may not have in the same way otherwise. There are some excellent showrunners out there and it always makes us smile when this particular category is competitive in terms of votes. Luckily, it was this year!
As we present the results, there are multiple people we want to recognize. First, how about some love for Emily Andras of Wynonna Earp? She always does an excellent job both creating the show and being a part of compelling fan discussions online — she received 20% of the vote this year. Meanwhile, the Shadowhunters team of Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer also performed extremely well, generating thousands of votes and over 30% in total.
Yet, in the end there are two people who emerged from the top of the heap, and they are Lucifer showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich. They received collectively 45% of the vote, which was easily enough for them to take home the title. The fact that thousands upon thousands of people came out for them really speaks to the fantastic quality of their work and, to go along with that, also the devotion that they had towards making more Lucifer happen. One of the reasons that we nominated them was because they were among the showrunners in 2018 who went the extra mile in order to give back to viewers. That meant taking part in the #SaveLucifer campaign and spreading some optimism in the process that the show could find a new home. After all, that’s not always easy! They’ve already gotten one massive reward in the form of a season 4 on Netflix; if that is the meal, maybe consider this dessert.
Now, we just have to wait and see what Joe and Ildy have planned for the upcoming season in 2019 — these episodes have already been filmed, so it is mostly a matter now of being able to put these episodes together and deliver something that is just as great as the excellent third season — if not better.
Congrats to not only Joe and Ildy, but to all Lucifans out there who voted for them!
