Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 9 spoilers: The fallout from the blackout

Grey’s Anatomy will be returning with season 15 episode 9 on January 17, and all signs point to this one being perilous. What is it with medical dramas throwing their hospitals into complete chaos going into midseason premieres? For The Good Doctor, it’s a quarantine. Meanwhile, with this show, it’s a blackout. This comes about as a result of the windstorm in the fall finale, and we really don’t think we need to say how problematic this is for the doctors at Grey Sloan.

The windstorm continues to blow through Seattle; and after the power goes out at Grey Sloan, the doctors are left scrambling to save their patients’ lives, including Meredith who desperately needs to get to Cece for her heart transplant. Meanwhile, Owen, Amelia and Teddy confront their complicated situation.

We know that there has been a ton of discussion online about Meredith and the new love triangle with Deluca and Link — yet, we rather appreciate that ABC doesn’t just highlight that in this synopsis given the circumstances. Meredith is still a doctor first and foremost and Cece is someone she’s been trying to help for some time now. It’d be completely ridiculous for her to be spending the entirety of the blackout thinking solely about two guys she hasn’t even dated yet. (Granted, we’re sure that the onset of the love triangle will be at least mentioned during the episode in some shape or form.)

With Owen, Amelia, and Teddy, meanwhile, the situation’s a little different. None of them have a patient with the investment that Meredith has in Cece. We’re talking here about two characters in Omelia who have been married previously, Teddy who is pregnant, and also Amelia’s attempts now to become a proper foster parent for Betty. There’s a lot of family stuff going on here and trying to figure that out is going to be extremely important. We don’t think it’s valuable for anyone if Owen drags this decision on; he needs to find a way to figure this out sooner rather than later; it’s a little different than what’s going on with Meredith, where she hasn’t settled into any relationship and has some time to make her choice.
