The Orville season 2: New promo hypes up different adventures
Is it true that there’s a legion of people didn’t quite get what The Orville is about? Absolutely it is, but we’ve also gotten a good sense now that there are a number of people out there who do. This is a science-fiction show with comedic moments, but it’s not just about the comedy. This is not a live-action Family Guy in space, as some initial teasers more than a year ago may have tried to convince you. This is a thoughtful, imaginative space opera with a lot of interesting characters and themes that cross generational and cultural lines. It’s a show that does play into a lot of nostalgia for old-school Star Trek fans — every episode is more or less its own, separate thing, and the members of the crew have complex relationships that play out over time. There’s a lot of fun to be had here, for sure, but it does also go beyond that.
Of course, our big hope going into The Orville season 2 is mostly that viewers didn’t forget about it. After all, it’s been such a long time since the first season was on the air! Basically, the first season premiered last fall and it took a very long time to get the second season made. This is a beautiful series, something that the promo below really hypes up. Yet, it also takes a good bit of time in order to make this world appear so. We don’t think that there is necessarily any huge plot spoiler within this promo, but it does at least give you a good sense as to some of what you can be excited to see in the weeks and months to come.
Be sure to watch, and be sure to also tell your friends! The Orville needs all of the help that it can get, especially when it shifts back to its normal timeslot starting on Thursday, January 3. (The December 30 premiere is meant mostly as a way to capitalize on an excellent lead-in via NFL football.)
