If Daredevil season 4 happens, Charlie Cox would be open to returning
At the moment, it doesn’t appear as though a Daredevil season 4 is going to be coming on the air anywhere. Yet, never say never, right? It’s hard to predict what’s going to happen in the save-our-show landscape out there, and we’ve certainly been surprised before.
Speaking in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, series star Charlie Cox made it clear that he would be happy to come back as the title character in some TV or movie project down the line — though he also made it clear that he wasn’t entirely sure just how that it is going to happen. He made it clear that he doesn’t want to create any sort of false hope, which we get given that there are so many people out there still eager about the idea of finding a way to get more of the show down the line.
What Cox did say was that he’s having a hard time digesting the news that his time as Matt Murdock is seemingly coming to a close:
“I’m very saddened … I felt like we had a lot of stories to tell. It’s weird to think there’s a chance I won’t be playing Matt Murdock ever again… that character has been such a huge part of my life for the last four and a half years.”
Cox is not on social media and with that, these comments marked his first one since the show was officially canceled. Daredevil was an iconic role for him and we know that the writers room was actively engaged in coming up with more stories for what could be coming up next. This show was roughly in the same place as another Marvel – Netflix series in Luke Cage when the cancellation news was handed down — these were shows that were actively planning ahead and presumably had some sort fantastic following behind them.
In the aftermath of these cancellations, there are only two more Netflix – Marvel series out there in Jessica Jones and The Punisher. The good news is that they’ve each got at least one more season’s worth of stories to tell. The bad news, however, is that we’re not altogether certain about the future of them. Netflix just seems to be eager to move forward from its library of Marvel shows, whether it be for commercial reasons or simply because they want to be able to separate themselves from Disney following the decision by the company to set up their own streaming service.
