It’s official: Jodie Whittaker has quite possibly the most important component to being a great star of Doctor Who: The heart.

The new video below comes via the BBC’s Children in Need charity event, and here is shows the series star alongside her co-star Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill, and Tosin Cole helping to make the dream come true of a young girl with cystic fibrosis. She’s someone who tries to keep a positive attitude and upbeat spirit no matter what, and the cast and crew want to do their part to give her a memorable experience.

This video plays out much like you would expect, but that doesn’t make it any less wonderful. You see how great the cast is with kids, and it’s clear that they also understand the sort of responsibility that comes along with being actors on the show. There’s an element of giving back of suspending belief, and of making other people believe that anything can happen if you really put your mind to it. This is a positive message that can reverberate through generations and that is clearly something that the entire cast and crew is really out to reinforce here as they make this as positive and uplifting an experience as possible. You can see that especially as Jodie talks with the girl and also share some of her own experiences that come along with being The Doctor.

We’re excited to see the remainder of the season, but beyond that, we’re also very much curious about how the cast continue to represent the series even when it is not on the air. After all, being The Doctor is about so much more than just doing episodes — it is about conventions, fan events, and finding ways to ensure that you are out there and communicating with the people who watch you. These are the ambassadors of the show; many of them have been watching for the entirety of at least the revival series, and these are likely the viewers who are going to introduce your show to future viewers down the line. This is a generational show; it’s one that entire families watch together as they get caught up in the imagination and the fun of it. It brings kids especially into a completely different world, while helping them learn about science along the way. With that, there are ultimately many different reasons why all kids and parents alike should celebrate it.

Right now, cheers to the BBC and the Children in Need special for this. Find out more about how to raise money here.
