Game of Thrones season 8 premiere month revealed … but still no date
Yet, in the process of all of this, they didn’t actually release a premiere date for the long-awaited final batch of episodes. Instead, they simply announced that you will be able to see Daenerys, Tyrion, and a number of your other favorite familiar faces back in April 2019. There are only six episodes left of the series, and this basically guarantees that the series will be done before you officially get around to the summer.
One interesting thing worth noting in advance is that Easter Sunday is coming a little bit late — think along the lines of Sunday, April 21. Will Game of Thrones really deploy one of their final episodes on a major holiday? Probably, just because Easter is the sort of holiday where not a whole lot happens with it after around 3:00 in the afternoon. They don’t really worry about any competition on the air — they don’t need to. This is one of the most-successful TV series of all time and in making viewers wait so long, they are only increasing demand. (The delay for new episodes is not a move done for that reason, though; it just took an extremely long period of time to film some of these final episodes. Reports are that the show is more cinematic than ever before and contains one of the largest battle scenes that has ever been uncorked in TV history.)
On the other side of Game of Thrones proper, there is something else exciting to still acknowledge: A spin-off that is being planned for down the road. You can read a little bit more about it over at the link here, but our sentiment at present is that this is going to be primed for release in 2020. It probably won’t be anywhere near the hit that the franchise show was, but it also really doesn’t need to be. Even just a fraction of those numbers is going to be enough to keep HBO profitable for a rather-long time to come.
When will the trailer come?
We’d be shocked if it is today — more than likely, HBO will release something more in January or February. There’s still a lot of effects-work being done given that there are no live dragons out in filming. When it comes, we have a feeling that it will be worthwhile … though HBO probably still won’t give away all that much. They don’t want to ruin an ending that they have put so much time and effort into perfecting. (Most of the footage from a trailer, whenever it comes, will likely just be of the first few episodes.)
