Gotham season 5: Cameron Monaghan hypes up Jeremiah’s finale

Gotham season 4 episode 21

Trying to find out specifics on the conclusion of Gotham season 5 is no easy feat; yet, at the same time, some of the actors behind the scenes still have no problem hyping things up!

For the latest evidence on this very thing, just take a look at what series star Cameron Monaghan had to say on the subject in a post on Twitter below. He describes the last appearance for Jeremiah, the villain described very much as “The Joker with a different name DC won’t allow us to use,” as “vile, vicious, nightmare-fuel horror” and everything he “loves about this character.” Basically, he’s incredibly excited for viewers to see it.

What’s especially heartbreaking about the story for Jeremiah is knowing just where this character started: He was a brilliant, paranoid engineering mastermind who wanted nothing more than to just be away from his psychotic brother. Yet, his brother’s own toxin, manifested within some of his own innate tendencies, have caused a different sort of monster to be born. Jeremiah is far more dangerous than his brother ever was, mostly because he’s more careful in his planning and understands how to cause more destruction. Jerome was a bull in a china shop, causing as much in-the-moment chaos as he could. The drawback to this was mostly that he routinely found himself cornered and in a spot where he could do nothing more. Jeremiah’s smart enough to avoid those situations, which is why he may be able to survive until the days of Batman despite being such an enormous threat. He wants nothing more than chaos and to ruin Bruce Wayne’s world, so how he proves himself formidable in the end remains interesting.

For those who did not hear, the Gotham series finale is going to feature a significant time jump to an older Bruce Wayne; through that, we will actually have a chance to see a proper depiction of Batman alongside many of his most-notable villains. Some of them are going to look so much closer to their comic-book counterparts than they ever did on this show, and this could be an incredible homage to the past five years plus also the comics. It’s past-meets-present and we’re thrilled that Monaghan was game enough to come back on this show following the end of his extensive run on Shameless. (He left that show earlier on in the season.)
