Arrow season 7: Filming begins on David Ramsey directed episode
In a new post on Twitter (which CarterMatt has for you to check out below), show executive producer Beth Schwartz confirmed that season 7 episode 11 is Ramsey’s episode, and that the title for this one is “Past Sins.” That is hardly the most spoilery title in the world, but this is one of those cases where our goal is not necessarily to pick apart the title of the episode. This is more about seeing David’s name as the director and celebrating this accomplishment given that it takes so much work to get there. This is something that he even notes in the post below via his official Instagram account.
Becoming a director for a popular network show is not something that happens overnight. It’s something that takes a great deal of time to prepare for, especially when it comes to shadowing some other people and getting a better understanding for some of the tricks of the trade. While actors like David have certainly been around many an actor over the years — remember that he’s also worked on such other notable series as Blue Bloods and Dexter — it’s one thing taking direction and it’s another learning how to give it out. The Arrowverse has certainly become a great place for people to hone some of their directing chops, given the fact that we’ve seen Tom Cavanagh take on this role for a number of occasions already on Arrow. Meanwhile, Danielle Panabaker is also set to direct an episode of that show a little bit later on this season. The CW in general has a rich history of letting actors direct on their shows; over on Supernatural, it is a fairly regular occasion for people like Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, and Richard Speight Jr. take on the role.
Do we think that we could see more actors take on this directing gig over time? Absolutely, but you have to make plans to get on the list far ahead of time. You can’t just wake up one day and be like “I’d like to start directing episodes now”, especially for people who are also directing themselves – this is not an easy feat to undertake!
The one bit of bad news here comes for people who want to see Ramsey’s episode in the near future; more than likely, this is not one you’re going to end up seeing until some point in 2019. It’s on the other side of the epic Elseworlds crossover event.
