This Is Us season 3 episode 4 promo: Jack, Nicky, and Vietnam

This Is Us season 3

Next week, all signs point to This Is Us season 3 episode 4 being the installments that ends up causing us to crumble to dust.

In the video below, you get a small taste of what that could look like as there’s a promise this will be very much the story of “how Jack became Jack.” We know him to be a character who spends the better part of his life giving and working in order to make sure that other people are properly cared for, whether it be Rebecca, his kids, or his mother based on what we just saw in 3×03. For this episode, we could have a better opportunity to see the relationship between Jack and his brother Nicky, who died seemingly at some point while the two were overseas. While it’s been fun to conjure up conspiracy theories that Nicky is somehow still alive somewhere and Kevin discovers him on his own journey to the country, odds are that this is probably not accurate. Instead, we imagine that this is the episode where we learn more about exactly what happened.

If you like Milo Ventimiglia, this may be the performance for the ages. Much of what he does in life afterwards is influenced heavily by what he does here — he is a young man, and often these are the sorts of experiences that better shape and define you. We’ll see how all of this unfolds; for now, there is no guarantee that we will see too many other notable names over the course of this episode. It could all end up being, more or less, the story of Jack in the past. We’re not sure that we’re at the point in the present just yet where Kevin travels to Vietnam, but it certainly does feel like we’re close. The NPR interview feels like a good time that we’re well on the way.
