Is Saturday Night Live new tonight on NBC? We certainly do think it would be exciting to see more of the sketch show before too long, especially given that there are so many current events for the writers to spoof to some degree.

Unfortunately, this is where we do have to barge in here with a rather cruel reminder — as great as it would be to get more of the series soon, it is simply not happening. The ongoing summer break continues, and we do not think we are going to be seeing any new sketches until at least late September or early October?

Is there a chance SNL and NBC surprise us with something more before then? In theory sure, and we say that recognizing that we have seen such things as Weekend Update Thursdays in the past. However, it has been years since we’ve seen something like that, and we also think the network is being careful right now not to oversaturate a brand that is more stable than almost anything else across all of network TV.

If there is going to be any sort of Saturday Night Live related announcements over the next several weeks, they would likely be tied to the future of the cast. It is noteworthy that no performer seemed ready to announce an exit at the end of season 51, a sign that most everyone could return in theory. However, there may still need to be negotiations and, beyond that, the show itself does cycle people in and out at times. We hope that there is not much turnover, and we say that especially given how much there was coming out of season 50. (Also, remember that Bowen Yang said goodbye midway through season 51.)
