Outlander notes: Diana Gabaldon’s morning panel; other NYCC odds and ends

Outlander

It’s clearly been a pretty eventful past coule of days in the Outlander world with the cast in New York, but today, some of the action is starting to quiet down … but not too fast.

This morning, series author Diana Gabaldon (who was a surprise attendee at the New York Comic-Con panel last night) took part in a different panel in “From Pages to Picture” discussing her role in getting the books eventually on the air. If you have seen some of Diana’s past interviews, there are a number of things that were discussed here that you know about already, whether it be her decision to start writing novels at 36 or the early process of bringing the show to television. We do still give her a ton of credit for having the wherewithal to not just allow the books to be optioned into movies. At one point, that was really the only option given that premium-cable adaptations like this were a little more rare before Showtime and Starz started getting into the game. If she had allowed the series to be adapted for TV earlier, a lot of the content likely would have changed.

Gabaldon also gave some encouragement for writers to simply start writing if this is a career that they want for themselves; she also discussed actually writing an episode back in season 2 and some of the challenges that go along with that.

You can also see below via the show’s official Twitter page a few photos from the autograph signing that happened yesterday, one where Richard Rankin, Sophie Skelton, Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Maril Davis, and Ronald D. Moore met a wide array of fans, including some in cosplay! Outlander signings featuring all four stars in the same place are fairly rare these days, so this had to be a rather-nice treat for everyone who had a chance to do it.
